Toshiba server storage — SAS, SATA and NVMe drives

Server drives are bought against four independent attributes — interface, capacity, rotational speed and form factor — and getting any one of them wrong makes the drive useless in the bay it was bought for. SAS and SATA are not interchangeable in either direction at the backplane; 12Gb/s and 6Gb/s negotiate down but not up; and 512e and 4Kn sector formats cannot be mixed inside an existing array. The drives listed here span enterprise SAS, enterprise SATA and NVMe in both 2.5-inch and 3.5-inch form factors.

How to read these part numbers

Each line reads: type, manufacturer, rotational speed or class, capacity, interface and link speed, form factor, then the server maker's option part number and the drive manufacturer's model number. `HDD Dell 7.2K 12TB SAS 12Gb/s 3.5" 0KFJ7G MG07SCA12TEY` is a 7,200rpm 12TB nearline SAS drive in 3.5-inch format carrying Dell option number 0KFJ7G and Toshiba model MG07SCA12TEY. `4Kn` where present marks native four-kilobyte sector format.

Ordering notes

Confirm interface first — a SAS backplane accepts SATA drives but a SATA backplane will not accept SAS. Confirm sector format against the existing array, because 4Kn and 512e drives cannot be mixed in one RAID group. Confirm whether a caddy or tray is required, as drives are frequently quoted bare and the tray is chassis-specific. For NVMe, confirm the connector: U.2 and M.2 are not interchangeable and U.2 requires backplane support.

Lifecycle and availability

Enterprise drives are supplied new, new-old-stock or refurbished, and the condition of every line is stated on the quotation before you commit. Power-on hours are provided on request for refurbished units.

Equipment condition

New — factory-sealed, supplied through the manufacturer's own channel or a qualified distributor, with full manufacturer warranty.

New surplus — unused factory stock, original packaging where available, sourced from decommissioned projects or distributor inventory. Manufacturer warranty may have lapsed; CRS PLUS warranty applies.

Refurbished / tested — previously deployed equipment, cleaned, firmware-checked and functionally tested against the manufacturer's specification before shipment. CRS PLUS warranty applies.

Condition is confirmed in writing on every quotation before you commit to an order.

Where equipment is supplied new through the manufacturer's own channel, the manufacturer's warranty applies and is passed to you.
