Adtran NetVanta 4660 routers and hiX5600 access modules

Adtran is an independent access and broadband networking vendor, founded in Huntsville, Alabama in 1985, historically focused on DSL, fiber access and carrier Ethernet hardware. In 2012 Adtran acquired Nokia Siemens Networks' fixed-line Broadband Access business, bringing the hiX5600 DSL/VDSL access platform - originally developed as part of Siemens' own access portfolio before the 2007 Nokia-Siemens networks merger - into Adtran's product line. In 2021 Adtran announced a combination with ADVA Optical Networking to form Adtran Holdings, which closed in 2022 (ADVA's own FSP-branded product line is covered on a separate page in our catalogue). How to read these part numbers

NetVanta 4660 units are named by expansion configuration - 'WO EXP MOD' ships without an expansion card, while 'W/QD SHDSL' and 'W-QDVDSL' variants carry a quad-port SHDSL or VDSL WAN expansion module respectively. hiX5600 Interface Unit (IU) cards are named by DSL technology and port count - IU ADSL_72 and IU VDSL_48 give the port density directly in the model name, and a 'VME' suffix marks the VME-bus chassis format used in the larger hiX5600 shelves. The XFP transceiver is named by reach and wavelength (1310nm, 10km), the standard 10GBASE-LR class.

Ordering notes

Give the exact part number or full model description including any expansion-module or port-count suffix - hiX5600 IU cards of the same port count but a different chassis format (VME or not) or DSL type are not interchangeable. Condition is stated per quotation - new, new-surplus or refurbished - and we quote new where an item is still in Adtran's active catalogue (NetVanta hardware) and a destination does not admit used network equipment. hiX5600 access cards are legacy, discontinued stock and are supplied refurbished/used only. Hardware only: software licensing remains between the buyer and Adtran. Destination type approval and import permits (CST/SABER, TDRA, ICASA, CA, CMC, ARPCE) are the buyer's responsibility and we will say so on the quotation.

Lifecycle and availability

NetVanta 4660 routers and their expansion modules remain within Adtran's active product catalogue, though earlier-generation units are end-of-sale and typically sourced refurbished or new-surplus. hiX5600 access cards were inherited from Nokia Siemens Networks' fixed-line Broadband Access business when Adtran acquired it in 2012; that product line is now legacy and end-of-life, and every hiX5600 item on this page is refurbished or used stock, condition confirmed per enquiry.

Equipment condition

New — factory-sealed, supplied through the manufacturer's authorised channel or an authorised distributor, with full manufacturer warranty.

New surplus — unused factory stock, original packaging where available, sourced from decommissioned projects or distributor inventory. Manufacturer warranty may have lapsed; CRS PLUS warranty applies.

Refurbished / tested — previously deployed equipment, cleaned, firmware-checked and functionally tested against the manufacturer's specification before shipment. CRS PLUS warranty applies.
