Siemens EWSD switching, hiX access and SURPASS hiT modules

Siemens was one of the founding vendors of European digital telecom infrastructure, with its EWSD digital switching system deployed across fixed networks worldwide and its hiX broadband access platform supplying DSL and VDSL access nodes. In 2007 Siemens' carrier-related communications business merged with Nokia's networks business to form Nokia Siemens Networks (NSN); Siemens fully divested its stake in 2013 and the joint venture was renamed Nokia Networks. A further slice of the fixed-line broadband access portfolio, including the hiX5600 line, was sold on again to Adtran in 2012 (see our Adtran page). The stock on this page is genuinely Siemens-branded - legacy EWSD and hiX part numbers, using the S3xxxx and S5xxxx prefixes from before and around that transition - and is a separate line of stock from the jointly-branded Nokia-and-Siemens B-series and HiT cards covered on our other catalogue pages.

How to read these part numbers

Part numbers beginning S30050 and S30861 belong to the EWSD digital switching system - DCC/DCCDN/DCCDM modules are DC power converters, the DC and battery controller unit (DCBCTRL) and equipment control unit (ECU) modules manage rack power and control functions, and FANV6 is a cooling fan unit. Part numbers beginning S50028 belong to the hiX broadband access platform - Interface Unit (IU) cards are named by DSL technology and port count, and CIU/CXU-prefixed modules are control and interface cards for the hiX shelf. The S42024-prefixed 8-channel VOA card belongs to the SURPASS hiT optical transport family, covered in more depth on our dedicated Nokia and Siemens HiT page.

Give the exact part number, including the dash suffix - EWSD and hiX modules that share a base part number but carry a different suffix are not always interchangeable. All items on this page are legacy, discontinued stock and are supplied refurbished or used only, condition confirmed per enquiry; where a destination does not admit used network equipment we will flag this before quoting. Hardware only: software licensing remains between the buyer and the current platform owner (Nokia, for most EWSD and hiX assets). Destination type approval and import permits (CST/SABER, TDRA, ICASA, CA, CMC, ARPCE) are the buyer's responsibility and we will say so on the quotation.

Lifecycle and availability

Siemens ceased operating as a standalone carrier telecom brand after the 2007 Nokia Siemens Networks merger, and fully exited the joint venture in 2013. EWSD and hiX hardware carrying genuine Siemens part numbers is long out of production and out of vendor support under the Siemens name; all stock on this page is refurbished or used, sourced and sold on that basis.

Equipment condition

New — factory-sealed, supplied through the manufacturer's authorised channel or an authorised distributor, with full manufacturer warranty.

New surplus — unused factory stock, original packaging where available, sourced from decommissioned projects or distributor inventory. Manufacturer warranty may have lapsed; CRS PLUS warranty applies.

Refurbished / tested — previously deployed equipment, cleaned, firmware-checked and functionally tested against the manufacturer's specification before shipment. CRS PLUS warranty applies.
