Finisar Corporation was a Sunnyvale, California-based manufacturer of optical subsystems and transceivers, and one of the largest independent suppliers of pluggable optics to the wider telecom and datacom industry rather than a builder of its own branded network systems. II-VI Incorporated acquired Finisar in September 2019, and II-VI itself was renamed Coherent Corp. in 2022 following its acquisition of Coherent, Inc. Because Finisar built optics to open standards (SFP, SFP+) rather than proprietary platforms, its FTLF-series modules are widely used as interoperable, vendor-agnostic pluggables across many network vendors' equipment rather than only Finisar-branded systems.
