Huawei GPON and XPON ONTs — HG8546M, HG8145C, EG8145V5 and the EchoLife family

Huawei's EchoLife and OptiXstar ONTs are the most requested subscriber-side fibre equipment we see, and the requests arrive in a consistent form: a model number, a port layout written out as the buyer reads it off the label — 1GE+3FE+1TEL+USB+WiFi — a quantity in the hundreds or thousands, and a question about firmware language. Refurbished stock is not a footnote on this page. For the HG8546M in particular it is the main demand, so new and refurbished units are quoted side by side and the refurbished grade is stated rather than left to be asked.

How to read these part numbers

The prefix gives the family and generation: HG8xxx is EchoLife, the long-running GPON line; EG8xxx is OptiXstar, the ISP-channel equivalent of the same hardware; HS8xxx is the same platform again under a different market designation, so HS8145V5 and EG8145V5 are ordered as siblings; HG6xxx is the newer OptiXstar line. The middle digits describe the port complement — 85xx and 81xx are four-port routers with voice, 83xx and 85x6 the older one-GE-plus-three-FE layout — and the trailing letter group the Wi-Fi and voice variant: M is single-band 2.4 GHz, V5 dual-band Wi-Fi 5, X6 Wi-Fi 6 (AX3000). A regional suffix such as -10 on EG8145X6-10 identifies the market build and firmware set, which is why it should be quoted exactly as written.

Ordering notes

Give the model with its full suffix, the quantity, the destination city and whether refurbished stock is acceptable. State the PON mode you need — GPON, or auto-sensing XPON where your OLT estate is mixed — and the connector, SC/UPC or SC/APC, because the two are not interchangeable at the wall socket. Name the firmware requirement explicitly: English-language, unlocked, or a specific operator build if you are replacing like with like. Give the mains standard of the destination so the adapter is matched. Quotations are tiered by quantity — typically at 50, 500 and 2,000-plus units — and are quoted new and refurbished side by side so the two can be compared on one document. Lifecycle and availability

HG8546M, HG8145C, HG8541M and HG8346M are mature models supplied largely from refurbished and new-surplus stock, with new units available in volume on lead time. EG8145V5, HS8145V5 and EG8141A5 are current and supplied new. EG8145X6-10 is the current Wi-Fi 6 GPON model and is supplied new. HG8546M — the most requested single ONT, new and refurbished

The HG8546M is the model buyers name most often and the one most often asked for used. It is a GPON ONT with one gigabit Ethernet port, three fast-Ethernet ports, one POTS voice port, a USB port and single-band 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, in the compact EchoLife housing, powered from a 12 V DC adapter. It is ordered in volume for low-cost residential fibre rollouts where the subscriber plan does not require a gigabit LAN on every port.

Refurbished HG8546M units are quoted with the cosmetic grade stated, the test scope stated, the firmware language and lock state declared per lot, and the carton contents listed — adapter, patch lead and packaging — so the four questions a used-equipment buyer asks are answered on the quotation rather than in a second round of correspondence. The HG8145C is its closest sibling (same port layout, 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi) and the two are routinely quoted together.

Specification fields quoted on every unit

Every line on a quotation for this family carries the same fields, in the order buyers write them: port layout (GE, FE, POTS, USB) · PON mode (GPON / XPON / EPON) · Wi-Fi band (single-band 2.4 GHz, dual-band Wi-Fi 5, Wi-Fi 6 AX3000) · firmware language and lock state · optical connector (SC/UPC or SC/APC) · power input and adapter plug type · condition and, for refurbished stock, cosmetic grade · warranty terms.

Firmware language is treated as a specification, not a detail. English-language firmware is confirmed on the unit before dispatch where it is required, and operator-branded builds are declared as such.

Quantity and how quotations are structured

This is a volume lane: typical enquiries run from a few hundred units to ten thousand. Quotations are tiered by quantity — typically at 50, 500 and 2,000-plus units — and are quoted new and refurbished side by side so the two can be compared on one document. No list price is published; send the model, quantity, destination city and whether refurbished stock is acceptable, and the quotation comes back structured on those lines. Sample units ahead of a volume order are quoted on request.

Equipment condition

New — factory-sealed, supplied through the manufacturer's own channel or a qualified distributor, with full manufacturer warranty.

New surplus — unused factory stock, original packaging where available, sourced from decommissioned projects or distributor inventory. Manufacturer warranty may have lapsed; CRS PLUS warranty applies.

Refurbished / tested — previously deployed equipment, cleaned, firmware-checked and functionally tested against the manufacturer's specification before shipment. CRS PLUS warranty applies.

Condition is confirmed in writing on every quotation before you commit to an order.

Warranty

Warranty terms vary by item, by condition and by the supplier the equipment is sourced from. They are stated in writing on the quotation, per line item, before you commit to an order.

Where equipment is supplied new through the manufacturer's own channel, the manufacturer's warranty applies and is passed to you.

Refurbished stock — how it is graded and what ships

New and refurbished units are quoted side by side. For refurbished stock, the quotation answers the questions buyers ask first, in the order they ask them.

Is the housing new?
Cosmetic grade. Every refurbished unit is graded A, B or C and the grade is written on the quotation. Grade A: housing free of marks visible at arm's length, no discolouration, original labels intact. Grade B: light scuffing or minor marks, no cracks, labels legible. Grade C: visible wear or discolouration, functionally identical to A and B, offered only where the buyer has accepted it. Where an enclosure has been replaced with a new housing the quotation says so; a re-cased unit is never described as new.
Is the board fully working?
Test coverage. Units are powered and functionally tested before dispatch. For an ONT that means PON registration against an OLT of the matching vendor, every Ethernet and POTS port exercised, each Wi-Fi band brought up, a factory reset to default, and the firmware version and language recorded. For an OLT chassis or board it means power-up, board registration in slot, optical port check, control board access and the licence and software state recorded. The scope of the test is stated on the quotation.
With box and power supply?
Carton contents. The quotation lists exactly what ships with each unit: the power adapter, matched to the destination voltage and plug type where you specify it; an optical patch lead where requested; and whether units are individually boxed or bulk-packed. Original manufacturer cartons are not guaranteed on refurbished stock and are confirmed per lot rather than assumed.
What warranty?
Warranty on used stock. Warranty on refurbished equipment covers functional failure under normal use and is stated per line item on the quotation — the period, what it covers and how a return is handled — before you commit to an order.
Is the firmware in English, and is it locked?
Firmware state. The language of the shipped firmware and whether a unit is carrier-branded or carrier-locked is declared per lot. Where English firmware is required it is confirmed on the unit before dispatch, not assumed from the model number. Locked or operator-branded stock is declared as such and never described as open.
What about licences on a used OLT?
Licence state (OLT chassis and control boards). Second-hand OLT chassis and control boards are quoted with their licence and software state as received, stated on the quotation. CRS PLUS does not represent used chassis as carrying transferable licences; software licensing remains between the buyer and the manufacturer or integrator, and we recommend confirming the licensing position before relying on a used chassis for a live rollout.
