E6013 is a rutile general-purpose electrode: easy to strike and run, good appearance, suited to thin material and non-critical work. E7018 is a low-hydrogen basic electrode with higher tensile strength and toughness, required for structural, pressure and code work where cracking resistance matters. E7018 must be kept dry — vacuum-packed or oven-stored — and the -1 suffix denotes improved low-temperature impact properties.
EN 853 is the European standard for wire-braid hydraulic hose. 1SN has one steel wire braid, 2SN has two, giving higher working pressure for the same bore. The equivalent SAE designations are 100R1AT and 100R2AT. Working pressure falls as bore increases; the standard tables give the rating for each size. EN 856 4SP and 4SH are spiral-wire hoses for higher pressures.
Every item of lifting equipment must be supplied with a manufacturer’s certificate of test and conformity stating the working load limit, the standard, the proof load applied and a unique identification number matching the marking on the item. Before first use, and periodically thereafter, a thorough examination by a competent person is required under most national regulations. CRS PLUS supplies the manufacturer’s certificate with every lifting item.
The property class in ISO 898-1 gives the tensile strength and yield: 8.8 has a minimum tensile strength of 800 MPa and yield of 80 % of that, 640 MPa; 10.9 has 1000 MPa and 900 MPa. Grade 10.9 is used where higher clamping force is required and for high-strength structural connections; 8.8 is the general-purpose structural grade. Both must be marked on the head.
S275 and S355 to EN 10025 are the standard structural grades in projects following European codes; A36 and A572 grade 50 in projects following American codes. S355 and A572 grade 50 are broadly equivalent. Plate for pressure equipment is normally A516 grade 70. The project structural specification states the grade, and the mill certificate must show it.
