The SFP-10G-LR is Cisco's 10 Gigabit long-reach optic for single-mode fibre at 1310 nm over up to 10 km, and the SFP-10G-LR-S is its enterprise-class version with the same optics. They are the standard choice for 10G campus backbone, metro access and inter-building links.

Variants and part-number suffixes
SFP-10G-LR-S is the S-class (enterprise-class) variant with the same optics and reach, for enterprise and data-centre Ethernet. SFP-10G-LR-X is the extended-temperature version.

Before you order
Cisco switches check the vendor code written into each module and will reject or flag an unsupported one, so give the switch model and IOS / IOS XE / NX-OS release with the enquiry. State whether you require genuine Cisco or will accept a Cisco-coded compatible module — we quote both as separate lines and never present one as the other. Is SFP-10G-LR-S the same as SFP-10G-LR?
Same 10GBASE-LR optics and 10 km reach. The -S version is the S-class (enterprise-class) module and is normally the lower-cost option.
Which module do I need beyond 10 km?
SFP-10G-ER for up to 40 km or SFP-10G-ZR for up to 80 km over single-mode fibre.
Can SFP-10G-LR run over multimode fibre?
It is designed for single-mode fibre. For multimode links use the SFP-10G-SR, or SFP-10G-LRM for older OM1 / OM2 fibre.
